Cooper Bussmann Innovates Circuit Protection for Wind Power Technologies
Components for electrically safe, reliable protection & operation of wind turbines.

Vital to the success of wind power generation is protecting the sensitive electronic power conversion equipment (such as rectifiers, inverters, drives and UPS systems) that allows the electricity generated by the turbine to interface with the electric grid. The wide variety of Cooper Bussmann® high-speed fuses are proven effective against damaging overcurrent events that can destroy the power conversion equipment. Both the 170M and FW Series of high-speed fuses meet UL requirements, have the amp ratings, low energy let-through (I2t) and the time-current curve performance characteristics required so they open before sensitive and expensive semiconductor components can be damaged.
The full line of Cooper Bussmann low voltage fuses (<600V), including the dual-element/time delay Low-Peak® and the finger-safe CUBEFuse® with Class J performance; fuse blocks and holders; power distribution blocks, disconnects and wire connection products are used to protect low voltage power distribution equipment associated with the turbines (including HVAC systems and control panels). In addition, Cooper Bussmann fuses have the added advantage of easy selective coordination so that overcurrent events are localized to the nearest upstream fuse using published fuse ratio tables.
"We offer a broad range of products for the superior protection of the power conversion equipment used in wind power generation," explained Joe Schomaker, senior product manager. "And we continue to develop new products around emerging markets."
