New Pilot Cooper Bussmann® Overcurrent Device Recycling Program Introduced in Canada
Full roll-out planned for 2010

The Cooper Bussmann® Overcurrent Device Recycling Program, successfully introduced in the US in 2008, is currently being tested on a limited basis with Canadian authorized Cooper Bussmann® distributors. The program offers a responsible alternative for the disposal of ANY brand of fuse, circuit breaker and electrical contactor throughout North America. New to Canadian authorized Cooper Bussmann® distributors, the program is simple to coordinate from any branch location and provides participants with numerous benefits and promotional opportunities that will ultimately help to improve the bottom line.

The program is easy to manage:

  1. Cooper Bussmann supplies you with a recycling box to place in a prominent area on your showroom counter.
  2. Once the box is filled with any brand of fuses, circuit breakers or electrical contactors, simply seal the top of the box using a per-applied adhesive strip, print your return address on the pre-paid, pre-addressed shipping label, and add it to your daily UPS™ pick-up.
  3. Once these steps are completed, a replacement recycling box is automatically sent to you by Cooper Bussmann.

Not only does this recycling program promote environmental awareness, it can also have a real impact on your bottom line by giving your customers a reason to visit your local branch more often. In addition, as the movement towards a greener way of life continues to influence views and opinions of customers, the advantage of being a pioneer in environmental responsibility will have enormous benefits.

Participating in the Cooper Bussmann overcurrent Device Recycling Program consists of two easy steps:

  1. Agree to fund the program for ALL of your branches with a one-time investment of $45 per branch.
  2. Communicate the program and your corporate commitment to your customers.

Cooper Industries issued a formal environmental policy in May, 1990, to affirm its commitment to Ensuring Environmental Excellence. As part of this commitment, Cooper Bussmann recycled 1.8 million pounds of scrap metal or the equivalent of 16 million 30 amp fuses in 2008.

The program goal, based on the number of kits placed per month, was surpassed by 19%. Several trials are underway at various OEM locations and the program has successfully expanded into retail locations.

"With more than 400 US distributor locations already participating, we consider this program a great success," explained Kathy Reinhardt, Cooper Bussmann MarCom manager. "We look forward to offering the full program to our Canadian distributors in 2010."
